Review by Peter Ricci – Flix|Critic

Let just get to the meat of this movie as it stars (Christina Ricci) Anna in a mundane scenario. Bottom line Anna doesn’t believe she’s dead, she’s confused, terrified despite the funeral director’s reassurances that she is merely in transition to the afterlife. Elliot convinces her he has the ability to communicate with the dead and is the only one who can help her. Trapped inside the funeral home, with nobody to turn to except Eliot, Anna is forced to face her deepest fears and accept her own death. The only problem is the fear fall flat as director Agnieszka Vosloo tries to mislead you in this somewhat long-winded story of a girl who feared living and now struggles in disbelieve that she is dead.

Anna cannot accept she has been killed a horrific car accident. There’s not too much to say about this film as it takes place the morgue of a funeral home, directed by a creepy and twisted Elliot Deacon (Liam Nelson). The movie has a weak symbolic story line about death as Anna tells her student Jeff that a little chicken is just scared to be alive. The symbolism is Anna is having the same issue as the chicken and Elliot, a man with a so-called gift is able to speak to the dead. He is there to help Anna accept her death and leave the living behind her.

The problem with this movie is it lacks true direction. It gets confused and the storyline gets lost in the mix. Ricci and Liam have an odd chemistry which seems to work for this film. (Justin Long) Paul is once again is an extraordinary, he can bring any character to life no matter how dreadful the script is. The movie had so much promise, but the misguided script leaves you bored and somewhat disenchanted. The movie gets lost within itself. It’s a cat and mouse game between Elliott and Paul as it comes down to the day of her funeral. Paul believes Anna may still be alive and so it becomes a race against the clock to unlock the disturbing truth. The only problem is, I was counting the minutes till this movie ended and unlocked the truth of my time spent was wasted in this dreadful disaster. , The story between the two characters is less than developed; it’s tiresome to say the least. Christina does he best in a script which fails to ignite on-screen. Word of advise is to only see this movie if you are a diehard Christina Ricci fan. If not then pass this by, see it at a matinée or wait till DVD. The movie is a straight up lack luster, it a pure disappointment.
