Splice

B

Review by Peter Ricci – Flix|Critic

Bottom Line: Splice is intelligent, riveting and stimulating to the sifi-mind:

Splice is not your typical science fiction suspense thriller; it will surprise you as its way more than just that. Splice is intriguing, intelligent and sophisticated. Finally, Hollywood put a little creativity to work and came up with an all new dysfunctional family. Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) are a couple at the top of their game.  They are two brilliant scientists whose cutting-edge experiments in genetic engineering and splice genes have struck gold. They are the ground breakers in the world of medical cures; or so they are trying to be. They have genetically designed two promising specimens to research and diagnosis. But is that enough for the couple?

The Losers

Review by Peter Ricci – Flix|Critic

A-

What can I not say about this movie? It’s everything a guy wants in an action film. A hot chick and five testosterone driving men with a desire to fight without fear. We’re talking non-stop adrenaline for the action minded. It’s fast, furious and fun. The Losers is an elite Special Forces unit who is double-crossed and left for dead.

The Back Up Plan

Review by Peter Ricci – Flix|Critic

C+

Jennifer Lopez is back with her back up plan. It’s a romantic comedy that has its ups and downs in the laugh factory portion of the film. It’s one of those movies with a target audience, the late 30’s early 40’s female who is still single and wants to have children before it’s too late. The concept of the film makes scense and probably looked extremely funny on paper, but when actually played out the hilarity comes from the support group and a couple scenes with Lopez.

Death at a Funeral (2010)

Review by Peter Ricci – Flix|Critic

Unfortunately Death at a Funeral misses the mark and fails to deliver the comedic veracity of Ryan (Martin Lawrence) the younger brother to Aaron (Chris Rock). Aaron is married to Michelle (Regina Hall) his ever so understanding wife, which came off as filler. Regina is much more than that; this movie didn’t do her justice at all. Both men have had enormous success separately, but the two together are not funny. Where is the smarts of “I Think I Love My Wife,” or the down home hilarity of “Roscoe Jenkins,” because you won’t find it here. It’s a movie that shows you all the comedy between the two leads in the trailer, epic fail.

After.Life

Review by Peter Ricci – Flix|Critic

Let just get to the meat of this movie as it stars (Christina Ricci) Anna in a mundane scenario. Bottom line Anna doesn’t believe she’s dead, she’s confused, terrified despite the funeral director’s reassurances that she is merely in transition to the afterlife. Elliot convinces her he has the ability to communicate with the dead and is the only one who can help her. Trapped inside the funeral home, with nobody to turn to except Eliot, Anna is forced to face her deepest fears and accept her own death. The only problem is the fear fall flat as director Agnieszka Vosloo tries to mislead you in this somewhat long-winded story of a girl who feared living and now struggles in disbelieve that she is dead.
